LUXMAN LMC-5 Moving Coil Phono Cartridge
Reliable groove reading, accurately articulating the most delicate music signals pressed on vinyl. LUXMAN's latest phono cartridge is the LMC-5. After 40 years' experience, our aim was to design it to have sensitivity to all the musical information pressed on a record. We have developed this cartridge with confidence for all those who love vinyl and value its musicality.
✨ Key Features
💎 SHIBATA Stylus & Aluminum Cantilever System
To read musical information pressed on records accurately and reliably, we selected a combination of an aluminum cantilever with high tracing ability and a SHIBATA stylus to pick up a large amount of information with less audible noise. The vibration system uses a low distortion structure with the one-point "piano wire" support method.
This precision-engineered combination ensures exceptional tracking ability while minimizing wear on your precious vinyl records, extracting every nuance from the grooves with remarkable clarity and detail.
⚡ Cross-Mounted Iron Core MC Power Generation
The MC type power generation engine features a cross-mounted iron core with a compact magnetic system to improve efficiency. The coils for left and right channels are wound symmetrically, while adopting a magnetic structure with a small field area reduces external noise intrusion.
This advanced design achieves significant size and weight reductions while maintaining exceptional signal purity and channel separation. The samarium-cobalt magnet BH20 provides powerful, stable magnetic field strength for optimal performance.
🏗️ Minimalist Housing Design Philosophy
From our experience with closed body designs, the coil and cantilever can act like a microphone, picking up reflected sound. Therefore, reducing the enclosure results in less sound coloration. The housing is crafted down to a minimal design which still firmly supports the power generation engine.
The minimized outer chassis features an inverted egg-shaped curve that suppresses unnecessary reflected sound and vibrations. The machined aluminum body is anodized to LUXMAN's signature deep red corporate color with laser-etched L mark logo.
🎯 Precision Japanese Craftsmanship
Each LMC-5 is carefully assembled by our team of craftspeople, the best in Japanese cartridge manufacture. After a development period of 2 years, this is LUXMAN's first original cartridge in 40 years, representing decades of accumulated expertise in vinyl playback technology.
LUXMAN has consistently designed components for vinyl playback including our PD series analog players and E/EQ phono equalizer amplifier series. This cartridge embodies our complete understanding of the analog audio chain.
🔧 Optimized Load Compatibility
With an internal impedance of 4.7Ω at 1kHz and output voltage of 0.4mV, the LMC-5 is designed for optimal compatibility with high-quality MC phono stages. Recommended load impedance is 40Ω or more when using a head amplifier, or 2.5-10Ω when using a step-up transformer.
The tracking force range of 2.1-2.3g (2.2g standard) provides excellent groove tracking while maintaining gentle record wear. Dynamic compliance of 8 x 10⁻⁶cm/dyne at 100Hz ensures proper tonearm matching.
📊 Exceptional Performance Specifications
The LMC-5 delivers frequency response from 10Hz to 35kHz with channel separation of 28dB at 1kHz and channel balance within 0.5dB. The 30μm UEW coil and pure iron magnetic circuit ensure minimal distortion and maximum signal transfer efficiency.
The vertical tracking angle of 25° and solid diamond SHIBATA stylus provide optimal groove contact for accurate signal retrieval across the entire frequency spectrum, from deep bass fundamentals to extended high-frequency harmonics.
