The stylus assembly is user-replaceable, so a worn tip is a needle purchase and a thirty-second swap — not a new cartridge, not a trip back to the manufacturer, not a realignment session. Pull the old one off, push the new one on, and you're back to factory performance.

It's a 0.6 mil super-fine polished conical bonded diamond on a lightweight aluminum cantilever, in the MP-100's signature red housing, made in Higashine, Japan. Conical gets underrated: it's forgiving of setup error, it's easy on rough grooves, and it delivers the present, musical sound plenty of listeners actually prefer over chasing the last bit of high-frequency detail. A lot of people keep one of these around specifically for beat-up records they'd rather not put a fine-line tip through.

Nagaoka rates diamond stylus life at roughly 150–200 hours of typical home use before tone quality starts to degrade. Replace it on schedule — a worn stylus doesn't just sound worse, it wears your records.

The JN-P100 also fits the MP-110, MP-150, and MP-200 bodies if you want a conical option on a higher cartridge. Worth knowing it works the other direction too: dropping a JN-P110 or JN-P150 onto an MP-100 body upgrades the sound, though it won't turn your 100 into a 110. Nagaoka voices each cartridge around its specified stylus.
