Nagaoka JN-P150 Replacement Stylus
The genuine Nagaoka replacement stylus for the MP-150 and MP-150H — and quietly one of the most interesting upgrade paths in the whole MP line.
Start with the obvious job: if your MP-150 is worn, this restores it to factory performance in about thirty seconds. Pull the old assembly off the front of the cartridge, press the new one on. No realignment, no protractor, no unmounting anything. The cartridge body stays exactly where you set it.
The tip is a super-fine polished elliptical diamond with 0.4 x 0.7 mil radii — but the part that matters here is what's behind it. The JN-P150 carries a hardened, low-mass tapered aluminum cantilever, a genuine step up from the straight aluminum cantilever in the JN-P100 and JN-P110. A stiffer, lighter cantilever passes groove information along instead of flexing and smearing it, which shows up as cleaner transients, tighter bass definition, and better imaging. That's the difference between the MP-110 and the MP-150, and it lives entirely in this stylus assembly.
Which brings up the useful part: the JN-P150 drops straight onto an MP-100 or MP-110 body. If you're already running one of those and want the tapered cantilever without buying a whole new cartridge, this is how you get it. Worth being straight about the limits — Nagaoka voices each cartridge around its specified stylus, so a JN-P150 on an MP-110 body is a real improvement but not literally an MP-150.
One honest caveat, same as we'd tell you in the shop: added resolution means less forgiveness. If your collection leans toward rough thrift-store pressings, the JN-P110 may serve you better. Clean records, this is the one.
Nagaoka rates stylus life at roughly 150–200 hours of typical home use. Replace it before you can hear the wear — a spent tip damages grooves, not just fidelity.
