This is the point in the line where a pre-mounted option starts to matter more, not less. The MP-150 is where Nagaoka upgrades the cantilever — hardened, low-mass, and tapered, instead of the straight aluminum used below it — and a stiffer, lighter cantilever means cleaner transients, tighter bass, and a soundstage with actual depth. But it also means a cartridge that shows its setup. Alignment error you'd never notice on a conical becomes audible here.

Which is exactly the case for buying it aligned at the factory. Nagaoka mounts and aligns the MP-150 on their own headshell, so if your turntable takes a removable shell — most Technics, most vintage Japanese decks, most DJ-style tables — you drop it in, set tracking force and antiskate, and you're listening. No four tiny screws, no protractor, no half hour of squinting at overhang while your patience runs out.

The cartridge is the standard MP-150: Moving Permalloy design, super-fine polished elliptical diamond, tapered aluminum cantilever, samarium cobalt magnet, permalloy shield casing, 24dB separation. Refined and resolving, but still recognizably Nagaoka — solid bass, fluid midrange, highs that never turn glassy.

The headshell is precision-machined aluminum with gold-plated leads, Baerwald-aligned at 50mm to suit a wide range of tonearms, and adjustable if you want to fine-tune later. Total weight lands around 16 grams, inside the counterweight range of most standard arms — no heavier weight to track down.

One honest note, same as we'd tell you across the counter: the added resolution here is less forgiving of rough pressings than the MP-110. If your collection is mostly thrift store survivors, the 110H may make you happier. Clean records and a system ready to show you what's on them, this is the one.

And you own the headshell permanently — move up the line later, swap the cartridge, keep the shell. The JN-P150 stylus is user-replaceable, so a worn tip never means starting over. Thirty hours to break in.
