At the MP-300, Nagaoka finally rebuilds the body. Every model below it — the 100 through the 200 — shares the same familiar shell. The 300 gets an ultra-rigid one designed to kill resonance before it can color anything, and the cartridge weight jumps from 6.5 to 8 grams as a result. That's the piece people miss when they compare spec sheets and see "boron cantilever, elliptical diamond" on both the 200 and the 300 and wonder what the difference is. The answer is the structure holding it all together. A body that rings is a body adding its own signature to your records, and this one doesn't.

The measurable results follow: response extends to 25kHz and channel balance tightens to within 1dB. What you hear is soundstage. This is the model where images stop being vague left-center-right placements and become specific — wider, deeper, and properly defined, with performers occupying real space. Michael Fremer included it in his blind cartridge comparison work at Analog Planet, which is not a room most moving magnets get invited into. The tonal balance stays unmistakably Nagaoka: refined, detailed across the band, and easy to listen to for hours.

And here's why the H version makes particular sense at this level. A cartridge built specifically to eliminate resonance and reveal spatial detail will show you every setup error you make. Nagaoka aligns it at the factory on their own headshell, so if your turntable takes a removable shell — most Technics, most vintage Japanese decks, most DJ-style tables — you drop it in, set tracking force and antiskate, done. The shell is precision-machined aluminum with gold-plated leads, Baerwald-aligned at 50mm to suit a wide range of arms, adjustable if you want to fine-tune.

Two setup notes worth reading. Tracking force is 1.3–1.8g, lighter than everything below it in the line — set it deliberately rather than by habit. And because the MP-300 body is 8 grams rather than 6.5, this package runs heavier than the 100H through 200H. Check your counterweight range if you're on a lighter arm, and ask us if you're not sure. Output is 3mV, still comfortable for any standard 47k MM stage, though a very low-gain vintage stage is worth a sanity check.
