Rega P8 with Apheta 3 – An Impressive Leap Forward:

One of the great things about Skylabs Audio is its generous trade-up program, which makes upgrading to better components possible without sacrificing much of the initial investment.
My progression from the Rega P2 with the ND3 cartridge to the P6 with the ND7 was a significant improvement in soundstage, imaging, bass control, midrange clarity, timbre, and overall musicality.
Frankly, I wasn't expecting the move from the P6 to the P8 with the Apheta 3 moving coil cartridge to be nearly as dramatic. I was wrong. The improvement was every bit as significant as the jump from the P2 to the P6.
I suspect much of this comes from the Apheta 3, which clearly retrieves more musical information from the grooves than the already excellent ND7 moving magnet cartridge. The P8 isn't simply a step into high-end analog playback; it's a genuine leap forward.
Would I like a P10 someday? Absolutely. But I can see myself living very happily with the exceptional P8 for a long time.
